Fall 2007 Assessment

If you teach ENG 101/107 or ENG 102/108, you may have already participated in group assessment activities this semester. Some English 101 classes are writing a documented argument on Driving While Texting (DWT), and some English 102 classes are submitting a paragraph-length summary of an article we provided.

These pieces of writing will figure prominently in our Assessment Day activities on January 8, 2008, and our collective analysis of them will help us improve student learning in these important courses. Last spring, we received 68 paragraphs and 82 eng 101 essays. We hope for greater participation this semester.

If you prefer to do an individual assessment project, or if you teach courses other than ENG 101/107 and ENG 102/108,  you are responsible for designing and completing an individual assessment activity.  All faculty must assess each different course they teach each semester. Follow these steps:

  1. Beginning assessment
  2. Planning an activity
  3. Figuring out the results
  4. Telling everyone about it

Individual reports are available in an electronic notebook which you can search and read online. It's a great departmental resource!

The English Department will be merging its current Assessment website with this new website for Assessment materials and activities. We'll keep you informed of the improvements!
