Brachychiton acerifolius-Australian Flame Tree
Sterculiaceae Family

Red flowering very upright tree to 60' or more and 30' wide.  Trunk is heavy and smooth and most often green.  Leaves are bright green up to 10" across. 

Blooms May to June and can cover the tree with 3/4' tubular red or orange highly aromatic flowers resembling bells.  It is deciduous for a brief time in winter.  It is cold hardy to 25F but is not extremely well adapted to the low desert of Phoenix.  It is slow.  It also will grow in lawn areas.
