Buxus microphylla v. japonica-Japanese Boxwood
Buxaceae Family

An evergreen shrub quite cold hardy able to withstand -10F.  It will take the dry heat and alkaline soil of Phoenix but really is better in some protection from the full brunt of the summer sun.  The leaves are rounded 1/2"-1" and are usually bright green in summer, bronze in winter.  A slow grower to 6', it can make a nice evergreen hedge  There are many cultivars available but there are actually other plants more adapted to the rigors of the low desert than Boxwood.
