This cactus also starts as with a globular
form then forming a cylinder with age. It will reach 6' high and
2' wide with age. Central spines are gray to red and 2-3" in
length and are hooked at the end. Flowering occurs from July
to September with 2" funnel shaped red to yellow flowers forming a crown
at the top. It is native to Southern Arizona into Mexico below
4500' on rocky hills and flats. Full sun and a well drained site
are necessary.
