GCC  M.E.CH.A.

TOGETHER WE ARE STRONGER

Our goals/ nuestras metas

Academic Perspective/perspectivo academico

Working closely with the Multicultural Office we provide the members with valuable information about financial aid, scholarships, jobs, and internships. Mechistas participate in the Associated Student Government events, such as the  GCC Knowledge Bowl because we welcome academic competition. Mechistas also take part in the Homecoming Dance and other ASG activities because we are proud to be part of Glendale Community College.

Leadership Development/desarrollar liderazgo

As future community leaders, we participate in the leadership development, which will help us assume professional and academic positions. We are an inclusive student organization and value all ethnic and cultural perspectives.

Cultural Identity/identidad cultural

Mechistas participate in activities that highlight student academic, cultural, and social opportunities. We participate in  GCC college social functions and promote Latino cultural events such as GCC Hispanic heritage month and Mexico’s Independence Day (September 16) during the Fall  semester. During the  Spring semester Mechistas  will celebrate, Cesar Chavez in March and towards the end of the academic year in May, cinco de mayo (La Batalla de Puebla) to end the year on a positive note.

Community Involvement/Involucrarse con la comunidad

GCC MEChA supports social justice within our community. We honor Cesar Chavez for his dedication to our community. Believing he left a Legacy for us to follow we have adopted his motto “SI SE PUEDE.”  We support the Arizona Association of Chicanos for Higher Education (AACHE) as some of us will work within a college or university.

Cesar Chavez was the most important Lation leader in United States History. Dedicated to nonviolence, Chavez built the United Farmworkers Union and convinced millions of Americans to support the farmworkers' struggle for dignity. His efforts also led to the Chicano activism of the 1960's and '70s, and helped create a Latino civil rights movement.http://imgtn4.ask.com/ts?t=8263232996612311260&pid=23040&ppid=12
