STEM Club Meeting Minutes
Minutes
October 11, 02
- CALLED TO ORDER: 2:01 P.M.
- REPORTS
- The tutoring idea is still pending. We need to find out what can we do for them and what the high schools can do for us.
A follow up will come next week.
- The math problem of the month is good to go. The problem will be posted campus wide, anyone can participate.
The problem will hopefully be posted on the STEM website. (Once it's up) All we need is to provide a prize for solving the
problem. We will talk to local companies see if they can throw prizes our way.
- Pat's emblem was accepted by the STEM members.
- UNFINISHED BUISNESS
- Creating and distributing flyers that encourage students to join the club. Pat has made an outstanding STEM emblem,
so Pat will also be making the flyers that will incorporate the club emblem, what we represent, who to contact if
interested in joining, etc.
- How to earn money for the club. Through the web site, companies that want to sell stuff via the Internet can
post advertisement. We can get a certain percentage of whatever they sell and we can make money for the club this way.
- The Robots Are Alive!!! The robot idea once thought dead was given new life when Patrick brought in a schematic
diagram of a robot. Once everyone saw this, a new fire was lit under everyone and there were many members that wanted
to participate. A sub committee will be formed of members that want to take part in this.
- NEW BUSINESS
- Dell Webb Construction dinner - Dell Webb has a dinner to promote the Dell Webb school. The dinner takes place at ASU.
No movement was made to get all the members to joined it was just mentioned.
- When will STEM meet with companies? - Unfortunately the visit to Intel will not be happening this semester but STEM will
have tons more opportunity to meet with other firms. Patrick mentioned that Microchip was an Arizona based company and this
might be the initial meeting STEM will have with any firm. We didn't go into this topic to in detail.
- ANNOUNCEMENTS
- Thomas will talk to the school on 3 rd ave Fillmore to see if STEM can start a mentoring program that we can provide for
them. The mission will not be necessarily torturing kids but just to encourage them and let the kids know they can do
anything. Thomas will try to get the school interested and the focus will be 6 th , 7 th and 8 th graders.
- Patrick our very own computer scientist will deal with the process of getting the web program and web space up and running.
For the initial development most likely the GCC server will be used. Through the website, we hope to gain money by letting
people who want to advertise post their banners.
