STEM Club Meeting Minutes
Minutes
October 25, 2002
- Meeting Called to order at 2:15 pm.
- Math Advisor highlights:
- A math advisor from ASU came to talk to anyone who was interested in the math program available at ASU.
- Fliers were handed out that talked more about the math degree, so if anyone is interested they can contact Frank
for any information they might need.
- Math Competition:
- If anyone is interested in participating in the math competition, they can talk to Ann Dudley, who
will give you registration forms and practice tests.
- Winner of the competitions (multiple) have the chance to win scholarships, and graphing calculators.
- Thursday November 7 th is the first round, and the next round is scheduled for March.
- Not only do the victors win prizes but school recognition. (A rivalry exists between community colleges;
so make sure to make GCC proud.)
- Make sure to drop the STEM club name when YOU (the member of the competition gets the highest score.)
- Members at large: ? (Not sure what this meant)
- UNFINISHED BUISNESS
- Tutoring/Mentoring Situation :
- Two suharro ranch instructors that teach seventh and eight grades seem to need the most help.
- Come next semester, on JAN 20 th is when we are planning to kick the program off. It was also suggested
that we move the meeting there instead of MA 128 for the convenience.
- Fundraising:
- A raffle idea was suggested. Maybe the winner can get half the money and STEM could keep the rest?
- STEM Shirts :
- Stem will have an official shirt. The shirt will be a polo shirt but we are unsure of the prices that
the shirts will run.
- Members will investigate throughout the week to find good dealers and good prices. We will make a list
then of the members that want a shirt and we will build from there.
- COME SUPPORT PATRICK:
- Patrick has done so much for our club. Why not go show our support for him during the robot
competition that will be taking place Nov. 2 nd at the challenger center. Make sure to come out and show unity and support.
- Challenger center is located on 83 rd ave. and Bearsley.
- NEW BUISNESS :
- FLIERS, FLIERS, FLIERS:
- Marline Enlo is the next advisor that will be coming to GCC from ASU. She will be doing her
presentation during the STEM club meeting next month. Fliers are already being worked on. She put an
emphasis on computer science, so if you are in related field come and join us.
- Drop box for Frank:
- Our advisor for the club, Frank does not have a drop box where we can drop important information off
if he is not at his office. He will be working on that so we can drop club information off.
- ORBITAL:
- Orbital is a firm that has tons of engineers and STEM will try to make a connection/network with them.
- Each year Orbital builds rockets and launches them. We will try to incorporate this into the STEM club.
We can build and launch rockets with the engineers at Orbital.
- NEXT WEEK
- STEM shirt update
- A constitution needs to made (Guidelines for officers and functionality of the club.)
