Club Information and History

Since it's founding, the GCC STEM club has accomplished what few clubs ever do. We have created opportunities for students in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Whether you are a major in these fields, or simply interested in them, we are a great consideration for connections to education information and assistance, as well as a channel to help bring professionals currently working in these fields to you for lectures, and fields trips.

We have sponsored lectures given by engineers and mathematicians from Honeywell and Lockheed-Martin, as well as hosted field trips to some of their facilities. We also have assisted in events that allow young students to experience Science in a way they rarely see in their grade schools. We have assisted the college by kick starting advanced class tutoring programs. With the approval of the Mathematics Department, we have initiated Free Advanced Math Tutoring that is taught by Department Faculty and our Advanced Tutors, many of who are members. In addition to this, we are attempting to establish a similar program in the future to assist students in other curricula.

Do not be turned off by our academics, we also try to have fun by building ways to socialize with our members and even other clubs. That is why the STEM club Hosts the Semi-Annual "GCC Club Knowledge Bowl." A game show style event that allows friendly competition among the campus clubs in a battle of wits in general knowledge categories. We also plan events such as field trips, such as visiting the Lowell Observatory in Flagstaff and the Palo Verde Nuclear Power Plant, in order to learn and have some great fun.
