Site Modifications

Part of the revamping of the Student HelpDesk website was to ensure that things were updated as needed. Here's a list of major updates performed since the site was launched.

February 2007

02.21.07: Created and implemented a print stylesheet. This means that most users can then print any page on this website without wondering if the text will be cut off in the printing process. No action on the user end is required to take advantage of this.

January 2007

01.29.07: Updated content to reflect changes in wireless setup for users. Also uploaded corresponding downloadable documents.

November 2006

11.09.06: To reflect the change of account name, I went through all pages and replaced instances of "Palette" with "eGCC". I also updated the file salvage instructions on the Saving Data page.

September 2006

09.20.06: Modified the "On-Campus Wireless Access" link in the vertical navigation bar such that it now points to the new page called wireless.html. On this new page, I have placed three documents used to setup/troubleshoot wireless connection setups for both Windows and Mac, in Word document, RTF and PDF format (so all can use). Also, modified the CSS for <table> elements on this website. That way, the site retains a consistent color scheme. [CGL]

09.07.06: Performed audit of content. For some sub-sections, added direct links to corresponding GCC Tutorial, especially if users have expressed difficulty in understanding a procedure (e.g., H: Drive). Also, at the top of each section, added link to general GCC Tutorials category. [CGL]

August 2006

08.11.06: Did a quick edit of content to reflect the new system. [CGL]

May 2006

05.12.06: I reviewed the Homepage and changed some the content, in the hopes that content change would help get the information read. I hope to have a few more corrections made at some point this month. [CGL]

February 2006

02.03.06: 1) I have added special instructions for people trying to set up their Student Email account at home while having AOL as their ISP. These instructions can be found on the Email page, immediately below the basic instructions for setting up Outlook Express at home. 2) I have also rewritten the FTP instructions on the Working From Home page, as I received feedback that the instructions were unclear. [CGL]

January 2006

01.10.06: 1) I changed the instructions for setting up your home computer for Internet Access. Cox Communications changed their policies on outgoing email servers -- thus, all Cox Communications customers wishing to read their Student Email from their favorite email client only have to use smtp.west.cox.net as their Outgoing Email server. 2) I have also added a drop-shadow to the site so that it gives the appearance of it floating -- an aesthetic improvement to the site. 3) In addition, I have also changed the GCC logo in the footer on notice that the logo had changed. 4) And, I have added a table on the Welcome/Index page that gives quick questions and answers. Hopefully this will make finding answers to the frequently-asked questions of the month faster. [CGL]

01.12.06: I added a new link on the side navigation to the directions for on-campus wireless access, with the site currently located at http://www.gc.maricopa.edu/wireless. This was done due to requests from various faculty and students. [CGL]

November 2005

11.09.05: I checked all pages to see if they were indeed XHTML 1.0 Strict - discovered that I had made some really small programming errors. Fixed those errors. [CGL]

October 2005

10.25.05: Finally figured out and fixed the font differnce between most of the text and items in tags like: a, blockquote, dl, dt, dd, etc. I learned that if one doesn't explicitly specify font attributes in the CSS file for the aforementioned tags, the default will jump into play regardless of what I have declared under the 'body' tag in the CSS file. I also ensured all content enclosed in 'a' tags were rendered in boldface, in blue, and without underlines. Overall, today was spent working on aesthetics. I hope to work on some of the concerns raised about FTP instructions and also look for any no-longer-valid information I've got posted on this site. [CGL]

September 2005

9.8.05: Changed all instances of "Helpdesk" to "HelpDesk" to maintain consistency. Also modified NetStorage Instructions to also instruct how to upload files. Added instructions for disabling "Forwarding Student Email". In response to complaints about the phone number not being prevalent, I did two things: I added the Student HelpDesk's email address and phone number to the "Contact Us" page, and created the nifty telephone JPEG just under the side navigation bar! [CGL]

August 2005

8.8.05: Added new horizontal navigation bar to the top of the page, just under the Student HelpDesk logo. This reflects the change made to the main Innovation Center (now Technology Research & Implementation) site. The addition was done in anticipation of the launch of other IC-related sites, such as the Faculty Resources and GCC Help sites. [CGL]

8.19.05: Changed description of max email attachment size here and here. [CGL]

July 2005

Not many updates, as 90% the bugs were fixed last month. Did fix the uppercase/lowercase inconsistencies with key terms throughout the site. Otherwise, have received positive commentary and feedback. [CGL]

7.14.05: Added "Breaking News" box to the front page to address the July 30-31 District-wide planned downtime.
7.21.05: Added link to details for the July 30-31 event/downtime.
7.25.05: Took suggestions for the Email section: Added Outlook Express tutorials and placed an anchor/bookmark for the instructions regarding forwarding student email to other accounts. [CGL]

June 2005

Small updates, fixed broken links. We're waiting on making this site THE primary Student HelpDesk site - phase-in period. [CGL]

6.6.05: New site goes live. [CGL]
