My hobby (watch carefully as I'm )...
I am married to a wonderful (not to mention gorgeous and extremely intelligent) woman, Sherry, and have two sons, Alex and Chris, of whom I am very proud. They are both excellent, Olympic quality air rifle and small-bore shooters, not to mention very good skiers as well as very fine young men. Alex has participated in the Olympic trials for air rifle in Atlanta. Both boys have competed in the nationals for both air rifle and small-bore. They are also licensed ham radio operators and have talked with other ham radio operators throughout the world from their home. Sherry has two dogs, Gidget and Dickens, that are the love of her life (I come a distant third in her life). She tolerates skiing (just starting to learn), doesn't like water over her head, doesn't drive, and hates to cook. What was I thinking? :-)
As you can see, skiing is my favorite pastime and I'll jump at any opportunity to go. I have skied all of the mountains outside of Salt Lake City. My favorite ski slope is Alta, primarily because it is still rustic as opposed to Snowbird, or Park City. A very close second is Deer Valley ski area - with lots of intermediate and expert groomed runs. I also enjoy skiing at Brighton Ski Resort because of all the wooded area they have to ski. Nothing like skiing deep powder in the trees and not seeing another person until you leave the trees to ski over to a lift line.
I grew up in a small town named Brigantine, New Jersey. It is located on the ocean just north of today's gambling capital of the East, Atlantic City. The only way on or off the island is either a single bridge that leads into Atlantic City or by boat. The bridge was a drawbridge while I was growing up and in winter it would get stuck in the upward position on occasion. Since many of the school teachers lived off of the island, we wouldn't have classes those days. The island is about seven miles long (most of which used to be only beach) and about a half of a mile wide except for the far northern end. From the house I grew up in, the beach was a two to three minute walk and the bay was about six to seven minutes. What a great place to grow up! Everyone knew everyone else and we had lots to do in the summer on the seashore. Today, I miss the ocean and try to get back at least once a year in the summer.
Most kids in Brigantine became lifeguards once they turned sixteen, and I was no different. I joined the Atlantic City Fire Reserves as well as the Altantic City Ambulance Corps. I was assigned to driving the ambulance though I was only seventeen. I was involved in a number of major fires (putting them out, not starting them) including being left alone on the top floor of the Howard Johnsons Hotel with the ceiling caving in (just some ceiling tiles). I lost my helmet and when it was found, it had melted. I was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation as well. I guess everyone should have a little excitement in his or her lives sometime.
While attending Atlantic Community College in Mayslanding, N.J., I was able to arrange my class schedule of fourteen credit hours into just two days a week, Monday and Tuesday. What to do with the rest of the week all spring? I went skiing in Vermont. A good friend of my parents had a beautiful home at a small ski resort called Pico (ski in and ski out). She didn't like driving up there by herself so she provided the house, food, and transportation (I was the chauffeur). We went skiing every week. What a life...
While attending college, I was the President of the ski club. On a trip to northern Vermont with the ski club our advisor and I drove on up into Canada and went skiing at a number of ski areas. We just bought one or two run lift tickets at each resort and skied as many different places as possible. It was a tough job to check out all the ski areas for the ski club. :-)
This is where my resume picks up my life's story. In the early eighties I started teaching and that has become my mission in life. Once you have completed one of my classes, you'll want to come back for more, just because of the method of teaching I use. Try me.
