Long book but easy to break up into sections.
Napoleon's Buttons: 17 Molecules that Changed History by Penny M. Le Couteur and Jay Burreson Another history book that looks at how molecules or classes of molecules have played a role in the evolution of modern society.
Atkins' Molecules by Peter Atkins This book provides short (paragraph long) summaries of various molecules with some specifics about their chemistry but more on how they work.
