COURSE DESCRIPTION
Explore
Health/Wellness concepts by focusing on nutrition, weight control,
stress, fitness, sexual health, relationships and prevention of
life threatening disease.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
After
completion of this course, the student will be able to evaluate
his/her health/lifestyle habits and develop a plan to improve
or maintain their overall health and well-being.
COURSE SOFTWARE
Blackboard: Course materials, assignments and gradebook
can be accessed and completed in Blackboard, the course software
for this class. It is imperative to follow the guidelines below
to get your username/password and get comfortable with the software.
STUDENT
EMAIL
GCC email has changed. GCC students now have an educational Gmail
account that is used in Blackboard. You can access your Gmail
at https://google.maricopa.edu.
Please review these guidelines attached and set up forwarding
if you desire.
ACCESSING
USERNAMES AND PASSWORDS FOR BLACKBOARD
You need a username /password for Blackboard entrance. Go to Blackboard
home page at:
https://ecourses.maricopa.edu/webapps/login/. Click on the "New
User Click Here" Icon. Select "Student Link". You
are now at the SPAT tool (Student Personal Administration Tool).
Click on " Look Up My Username by Clicking Here" link.
Follow instructions to enter your information and obtain your
Blackboard username/password.

GRADEBOOK
Grades
can be checked and monitored via Blackboard. It is the students
responsibility to check their gradebook and notify instructor
if a grade is incorrect during office hours or via email.

SPECIAL NEEDS
If you

SYLLABUS
CHANGES
From time to time, changes
may be made in the syllabus to accommodate class changes and enhance
learning. Changes will be communicated to students via class announcements.
CELL PHONES/PAGERS/ELECTRONIC
DEVICES
Unless directed by instructor, please turn off and remove from
desk/chairs/tables all cell phones/pagers, head phones, MP3 players
etc. during class time. Emergency modes are OK.
VIDEO
ACCESS
Lectures will often
be recorded and posted in GCC iTunesU and Blackboard. These can
be used for review but are not a substitute for missing class!
ATTENDANCE
POLICY
Students are required to attend class regularly. No penalty for
the first 3 unofficial absences. The student will be dropped from
class on the 4th absence. A tardy/early leave will be assigned
after 5 minutes from class start time or any time before class
ends. 2 tardies/early leaves equal 1 absence.
REQUIRED
ACTIVITIES
Participate in group activities, assignments and evaluations.

will be conducted/completed in class. Can Not be made up if missed.

is designed to help you achieve a change in your personal health.
You will "blog" or journal how you did in Blackboard!
Health Current Events Cafe (1):
Follow a health related topic of your choice. Post information
in our class Wiki @ Blackboard.
Announced Tests
(2):Can be made up if missed
only with PRIOR DISCUSSION with instructor. Missed tests count
as zero points.
Guided Reading
Quizzes (10): Completed
in Blackboard. 12 quizzes are available. Additional quizzes can
be counted as extra credit.
Reading Assignments: Chapters listed on course outline are to
be read by the date listed.
