TIPS TO GET STARTED
Online classes require diligent work, even more so than a traditional face to face class.. Expect to spend 8-10 hours per week on this course. I suggest opening each chapter under Course Materials Tab @ Blackboard and read the objectives. Listen to the podcast. Next, read the text and take notes using the chapter outline. Then look at the study questions. Can you answer them? Lastly, complete the required assignments and/or discussion forum. Check the Announcement center frequently!

COMMUNICATION
Communicate with instructor via email @ Blackboard. You must set up your "personal information" once you are in your course to receive and send emails. I can't tell who "blackbird@ yahoo.com" is...so please make sure your email address is valid and contains your name, HES100 section number in the address, subject or your email message. You are responsible for maintaining your email address in the course! If you change it, please change it in Blackboard as well!

WILL I NEED TO VISIT THE GCC CAMPUS "IN PERSON"?
Students will not be required to come to the GCC campus unless they choose to use the campus computer labs to complete their assignments. Communication and completion of course requirements can be done entirely online. I am available in my main campus office (FW-12) for a few hours per week. Please check my schedule if you would like to stop by!

WHAT TYPE OF COMPUTER EQUIPMENT AND COMPUTER SKILLS DO I NEED
Students should be familiar with the Internet. They should be able to click through a web page, and know how to send and receive e-mail.Students can complete this course on campus (in the High Tech Centers) or off campus (must have access to the Internet and have a browser (Netscape, Internet Explorer, Firefox etc).

LOGGING IN & MAINTAINING STATUS IN THE CLASS

TECHNOLOGY PROBLEMS
Please do not wait until the last minute to post assignments or any other course requirement. Online classes have their 'inherent ' limitations....computer crashing, servers crashing...etc! Leave yourself enough time to deal with these problems if they arise! Penalty points for late postings will be assessed regardless of the problem.

SYLLABUS CHANGES
