Introductory
Biology for Allied Health (BIO156)
Biology
156 is an introductory biology course for allied health majors (nursing,
dental
hygiene;
dental
assistant,
respiratory therapist,
or
ultrasound technician).
Topics include fundamental concepts of cell biology, histology,
microbiology, and genetics.
The
Biology
156 course will
emphasize: · Applications
from
the study
of biology
to
the nursing
and allied
health fields;
· Topics
of human anatomy/physiology
and microbiology
that
are essential
to the
Biology
201 and 205
courses.

205
is designed
for nursing and allied health students.
It
concerns
microorganisms
and their relationship to health, ecology, and related fields.
Biology
205 offers a quality educational experience in a laboratory science and
provides students with the principles of bacteriology, virology, and
immunology. It also encourages the development of good laboratory
techniques that will be useful in subsequent courses as well as in allied
health and nursing careers. The course encourages students to think
critically and to engage in a deeper understanding of their microbial
