Graphing Information

There are many graphing programs.  The most common is probably Microsoft Excel.  At GCC we also have Graphing Analysis on the lab computers.  You may use either to create graphs. 

Microsoft Excel information 

Simple linear graph

  1. Enter x axis values in first column.  Enter y axis values in second column.  Don't use scientific notation unless you already know exactly how to do it. 
  2. Highlight (select) both columns
  3. Go to "insert" and select "chart"
  4. Select XY scatter and hit next
  5. If the preview looks OK hit next
  6. Enter graph title (Y versus X), x axis label, y axis label, don't forget units ie:  Temperature (K)
  7. Hit next and save as new sheet
  8. Right click anywhere on the graph to change something under chart options
  9. Right click on a data point and select trendline (makes a best fit line)
  10. select linear, then under the options tab click on "display equation" and the y=mx+b will show with the real slope and intercept
  11. To get rid of the legend, just select it and hit delete.
