Welcome to my piece of the web!
This page is intended to give you a little info about myself (shameless self promotion on my part), and to recommend some sites that I find interesting, and that I believe you will find interesting as well.
I attended graduate school at The University of Oklahoma where I studied Social Psychology . I am originally from Oklahoma. It's a beautiful state were the nicest people in the country live. Can you tell I'm biased?
As a social psychologist, it is my belief that all courses in psychology including the Black Psychology course, should be taught as a psychology of integration, not separation and as a psychology of questions and answers, not blame. I am devoted to teaching psychology in a way that includes everyone, and speaks to everyone, all races, ethnic backgrounds, religions, and sexual orientations. This is what I believe psychology is, and I hope an integrated view of psychology is something I can contribute to the field of psychology, and to the students whose learning I facilitate.
Lately my research has taken an applied turn. I have been working with adult probation departments collecting data and helping to design training. We are primarily interested in the way the job of being a probation officer impacts the officers. Because probation officers work with convicted felons, some of whom are sex offenders, domestic abusers, and murders it seems likely that the work could negatively impact the officers. We have collected data from officers in several different states and have designed training to help mitigate the negative impacts.
O.K., now that I am off of my soapbox, here are some links to things I think are cool, and I hope you will find them to be..., well..., at least interesting.
My Personal Passions: I am an aviation enthusiast. When I worked for the FAA I became a licensed pilot. Though I do not currently fly, I like aviation and the research side of aviation. I am always interested in human factors aviation research as well as crash investigation. I love the outdoors. I absolutely love hiking in Sedona, AZ. Nature has a way of directing us back to what's really important. I have included links to some aviation sites as well as some links to psychology sites, and some other sites I enjoy. I hope you find these to be as entertaining and informative as I do. By the way, I'm a big sports fan. My favorite professional teams are the Phoenix Mercury (WNBA), the St. Louis Rams (NFL... hey, I have been a Rams fan since 1979), the Arizona Diamondbacks (MLB), and the Philadelphia Flyers and Phoenix Coyotes (NHL). During the NFL season I have my own Fantasy Football team (Football is my favorite sport). Stop by my office some time and let's talk football.
