Oh- before I forget...Please read this disclaimer before going any further. In short, none of this is anyone else's fault. And even if it were, it's not.
Censorship, and it's relation to Free Speech, and the Free Exchange of ideas has been a weighty topic on my mind recently. Here's a few quotes that pretty well sum up my feelings on the matter, please- make of these what you will:
"Everyone is in favor of free speech. Hardly a day passes without
its being extolled, but some people's idea of it is that they are free
to say what they like, but if anyone else says anything back, that is
an outrage."
-- Winston Churchill
"We are not afraid to entrust the American people with unpleasant
facts, foreign ideas, alien philosophies, and competitive values. For
a nation that is afraid to let its people judge the truth and falsehood
in an open market is a nation that is afraid of its people."
-- John F. Kennedy
"Censorship of anything, at any time, in any place, on whatever
pretense, has always been and always be the last resort of the boob and
the bigot."
-- Eugene Gladstone O'Neill, American playwright (1888-1953)
"Free societies...are societies in motion, and with motion comes
tension, dissent, friction. Free people strike sparks, and those sparks
are the best evidence of freedom's existence."
-- Salman Rushdie
