Looking straight down on the Grand Canyon area, we thus see the patterns of colors representing each different rock type. These patterns are called the outcrop patterns. The bluish color near the top of the map below would be the outcrop pattern of the Kaibab Limestone from the previous slide. In other words, if you went to the areas in the blue color, you would be standing on the surface of the Earth on the Kaibab Limestone.
