This slide summarizes the three types of unconformities, the angular unconformity, the nonconformity and the disconformity. Note that the biggest difference between the disconformity and the nonconformity is the rock types on either side. In the nonconformity, the rocks on either side are different types- igneous/metamorphic (deep) versus sedimentary (surface). In the disconformity, the rocks on both sides are surface rocks (usually sedimentary).
