The Cambrian rocks are not necessarily the same rock types representing the same environments of deposition everywhere. But knowing that all are the same Cambrian age and using the clues that sedimentary rocks give us about environments allows geologists to reconstruct the paleogeography of continents and the globe on maps. Geologists can use such maps to predict the location of coal, oil, and natural gas deposits.
