We have observed in our study of relative dating that rocks that were once horizontal, laterally continuous layers may be bent and/or broken by forces within the Earth. Bends and breaks in rocks are called geologic structures. Remember, mountains and valleys are not considered geologic structures (even though bends and breaks in rock may produce moutains and valleys. Instead, these features are considered geographic structures, NOT geologic.
