An understanding of geologic structures is critical to interpretating what lies beneath the Earth's surface. Hundreds of geologists are engaged in this effort on a daily basis- looking for water, fossil fuels, mineral deposits, safe places to store refuse and other hazardous materials etc. The rest of this tutorial is spent learning how to understand geologic structures shown on geologic maps.
