In a different situation, the granite intruded into some rock (Figure 1) that has been since eroded away (Figure 2). The rubbly surface of the eroded granite contained broken bits of granite which became included in a later deposited sedimentary layers (Figure 3). In this situation, the granite is older than the sedimentary layers in Figure 3.
