Deep-level metamorphic rocks can have a similar history to the granite in the last example. That is, rocks can be metamorphosed at depth. Later uplift can expose the metamorphic rocks at the surface. The rubbly clasts on the surface of the eroded metamorphic rocks can become included in a later deposited sedimentary layers. In this situation, the metamorphic rock is older than the sedimentary layers.
